Abstract Research on cancer narratives has not contextualised emotional and cognitive processes in stages of coping. The study examined linguistic indicators affective 31 Malaysian survivors. analysis the 58,787-word transcript using Linguistic Inquiry Word Count ( liwc ) software revealed that coping with is a case mind over emotions, 12.52% words related to 4.17% processes. Frequently used linked indicated survivors’ rationalisations their denial diagnosis explanations treatment. positive reflect optimism after reaching acceptance. negative indicate trauma uncertainty about prognosis may be useful identifying so appropriate support can given patients
